MARCH SOCIAL MEDIA TRENDS RECAP & APRIL PREDICTIONS

Hey homies! Can you believe it’s April??? You know what a new beginning means… your March trend recap is IN!!! ✨  We know that keeping up with all the social media trends is a full-time job in itself, which is why we’re here to lighten your load. After all, what are friends for? 🫶 Let’s jump in!

SOCIAL MEDIA TREND #1: THE OSCARS AFTERMATH

The Oscars attendees were serving looks, laughs, & (most importantly) iconic moments at this year’s ceremony. There’s a lot to unpack here… Let’s first take a minute to recognize the amazing productions & professionals that received awards (👏)!

As you may know, the Homies loved the Barbie movie, so it’s only natural that we were LIVING for Ryan Gosling’s rendition of ‘I’m Just Ken’ this year. Not to be biased, but this may have been our favorite moment of the night 🤭The amount of memes we saw using this moment was unreal (& so funny).

Emma Stone was the true star of the Oscars with not one, but a handful of memeable moments from this night (in the best way). Emma won her second Oscar for Lead Actress, but she won the Homies over with her down-to-earth personality, sense of humor, and genuinity in her acceptance speech. She cheered on other women in the category, picked fun at her ripped dress (thanks Ryan 🙄), and overall spread so much love and positivity from what we could see. Don’t text, having an Emma Stone movie marathon. 🍿

Jon Cena presented the Costume Design award… naked? Well… kinda? 😉He *did* in fact have something on under that envelope, but let’s be honest, we were all shocked regardless.

One last honorable mention for Billie’s What Was I Made For Oscars performance is obviously obligatory… her performance urged a standing ovation that moved many to tears. Such a beautiful moment from the night, and in pop culture history in general.

SOCIAL MEDIA TREND #2: MARCH MADNESS BRACKETS

March Madness is always a fun time on social media, and this year brands were quick to hop on the brackets challenge to promote their products, launches, etc. This is a great example of taking trending pop culture moments and directly incorporating it into your social strategy to connect with your audience. A few brands that did this well were:

💄 Glossier

🍩 Krispy Kreme

Not only is this strategic in driving traffic to their product pages but it also encourages people to find their new favorite product based solely on the graphic! Despite the designs being on-trend for March Madness, these campaigns are great evergreen content that promotes their products and inspires their communities to try something new, not to mention drives their engagement through the roof!

Posts like this are optimal for boosting engagement through shares and comments, and in this case, that data could be super valuable for your business - find out where your audience is at with your current products, their favorites, and where room for improvement or new product opportunities may be.

SOCIAL MEDIA TREND #3: I’M JOKIN’, I’M JOKIN’

Dylan! That looks really good… I shoulda got that. If you haven’t seen or heard this trend, get caught up here. This trending sound had a HUGE moment on TikTok, but why? Well… we aren’t exactly sure, in all honesty. The original audio comes from the show I Think You Should Leave by comedian, Tim Robinson, but doesn’t have any real significance other than the fact that it’s a funny skit in a Netflix special.

As we all know, TikTok is a place where starting trends (similar to this one) happens all the time with no particular rhyme or reason! If you needed a sign to start posting more consistently on TikTok, this might be it. 😉

Other TikTok Trends we’ve loved this month include:

🦈 Hi Sharks

💖 You Know Me So Well

🥤 Internal Wounds

👊 Sims Dancing
