February Social Media Trend Recap & March Predictions

Hey homies! Welcome to our *drumroll please* … February Social Media & Pop Culture Trends Recap! We’re so happy you’re here - let’s get right to it.

SOCIAL MEDIA TREND #1: POOKIE (YOU’RE LOOKING ABSOLUTELY FIRE TODAY 😘)

Pookie (Campbell Hunt Puckett) & her husband Jett broke the internet with their date night fit checks in recent months. If you don’t know what we’re talking about, check them out here! The Pucketts have been social media influencers for some time, but gained popularity pretty recently after a few of their date night fit checks went viral.

Their post from Jan 28 has been viewed over 9 million times and has numerous videos using their audio, including the homies 🤭There is controversy over whether or not Pookie & Jett are cringe or utterly adorable. Love is love, right?  If it’s any consolation, we think they’re absolutely adorable. What do you think?

SOCIAL MEDIA TREND #2: MICHAEL CERA(VE)

The Michael Cera with CeraVe campaign may have been one of our favorite marketing stunts in a LONG time. Not only did it get people talking about CeraVe (like… full on swiftie conspiracy status) but it allowed for the company to reposition their product as the #1 skincare brand for their existing customers and an entirely new audience. They even have an entire landing page on their website about this campaign, so if you look up “Michael Cera with CeraVe” the first link directs to their site where they break down “the truth about CeraVe.”

Not only is this strategic in driving traffic to their website, it is encouraging people to actually learn about the products whilst showing tons of personality through their brand voice. To put the cherry on top, CeraVe also has a discount code linked on this informational page, so once the consumer is finished reading the facts about CeraVe they are provided with a code for $$$ of their first purchase. Brilliant.

SOCIAL MEDIA TREND #3:TAYLOR’S NEW ALBUM

STOP EVERYTHING NOW! Just when the swifties thought they knew what was coming… Taylor announced a brand new album The Tortured Poets Department with a release date of April 19th. Brands were quick to hop on this trend and we are LOVING it. From McLaren to Poppi to Real Estate Groups (shameless plug obvi) this trend popped off and performed SO well for so many accounts.

At our agency, we’ve noticed impromptu trending posts like these (the homies refer to this as “agile content”) resonate and perform well for our social media clients. In fact, some of our best performing posts are pulled from agile content we’ve shared on client accounts! So, this may just be your sign to post that Taylor Swift meme because you never know, it could be *the 1*  that goes viral. 😉

Upcoming events to pay attention to for agile post opportunities:

🏆 The Oscars (March 10)

🏀 March Madness (March 19-April 8)

SOCIAL MEDIA TREND #4: *OLD SCHOOL* GRAPHICS

Did you guys see the most recent OSEA campaign!?!? Playing into their launch year of 1996, OSEA completely redesigned their website for their Leap Year promo in February. Their messaging was ON POINT using phrases like, “Shop like it’s 1996” & “Welcome to our skincare time machine” while also playing into the scarcity mindset of Leap Year with the phrase, “Just like Leap Year, we only do this once every 4 years.”

If you’ve been here awhile, you know we love everything Deux is doing, and they are on top of the retro vibes this month as well. Playing into the 1950’s diner feel, Deux has been teasing moodboards, merch, and more on their IG for the upcoming Expo West convention.

Retro is having its moment rn and we expect to see this carry through March! 🌀

SOCIAL MEDIA TREND #5: RHODE PHONE CASE

BRB, calling 1-800-rhode & letting them know they absolutely slayed this campaign. 💅 Not only did this phone case/lip tint duo sell out, they had other brands like Deux and Bask Suncare recreating their own versions of the Rhode Phone Case all over social media.

One of our favorite things about social media is the social  aspect because, at the end of the day, social media is supposed to be fun. Seeing brands engaging with one another in non-traditional ways online (like this) is definitely becoming more popular and is so fun to be a part of as customers & followers.

MARCH PREDICTIONS

The forecast is in! We can expect to see continued use of the bubble fonts 🫧, more vulnerability trends from CEO’s like this, lucky girl vibes 🍀, more ballet flats 🩰, and ✨maximalism✨. Minimalist, clean-girl aesthetic is out, maximalism is officially IN.
